SYRACUSE -- High winds in Syracuse are to blame for a near-tragic accident in front of Crouse Hospital in Syracuse Tuesday Night.
Bob Allen, of Crouse Hospital, confirmed to CNY Central that a metal covering on the roof of the hospital fell ten stories on to the roof of a car along Irving Avenue around 11:00.
He said the car belonged to a nurse at the Veteran's Hospital. The woman was not hurt, Allen said.
"We're fortunate and lucky," he said, "This could have been a tragic situation."
Just minutes before this incident, record breaking winds were recorded by sensors on top of the Carrier Dome.
The piece of metal weighed 500 pounds and covered air conditioning units on the roof.
Allen said engineers have since made sure similar pieces of metal have been secured.
