SYRACUSE -- A North Syracuse man charged in a deadly drunk driving crash was arraigned Thursday morning.
52-year-old Harry McLeod appeared in Onondaga County Court to face the charges. He was indicted last week on vehicular manslaughter and other charges.
McLeod, of Allen Road, is accused of driving drunk with no headlights on at night and killing another driver, 78-year-old Edward Warner. It happened October 14 on Brewerton Road in Salina.
"He was a great guy, great father, great husband to my mother," said Mark Warner, the victim's son. "It was not good, he suffered through several days thereafter."
McLeod is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated driving while intoxicated. Prosecutors say McLeod's blood alcohol level was .23 percent, almost three times the legal limit.
Investigators say McLeod's car clipped a traffic sign and two cars before crashing into the car while turning into a car wash. Warner died four days later.
"The evidence appears to indicate yes that he turned in front of the defendant's car," said prosecutor Chris Bednarski. "The car didn't have headlights on, so he wouldn't have seen the car."
McLeod's bail was set at $25,000 cash or bond. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted and is due back in court on January 30.
