Joe Paterno has died at age 85
Fans are already gathering to pay tribute to legendary football coach Joe Paterno, who has died of complications from lung cancer. His family announced his death, Sunday morning.
Paterno had the winningest record in major college footbal...409 wins in 46 seasons, including two national championships.
But he was fired, November 9th, in the child sex abuse scandal involving one of his assistant coaches. His family announced, ten days later, that he was being treated for lung cancer, discovered in an exam for a bronchial infection.
In Syracuse, Paterno will always be remembered for the rivalry -- SU-Penn State was THE game of the season.
At State College, a memorial is growing at Paterno's statue as well-wishers leave candles, pom poms and other memorabilia in tribute to Joe Pa. Penn State's president says the football coach will be honored for his legacy.
