SYRACUSE (AP) -- People laid off when their plant closes are the stars of a new sitcom based in Syracuse.
The pilot for the show, called "Upstate," was aired at Syracuse Stage on Sunday. The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that the audience loved it.
The writer is Tom Seeley of Cazenovia, who has written for several sitcoms including "Newhart" and "Murphy Brown." The executive producer is Steve Kimatian, former general manager of WSYR-TV. They're discussing it Monday at a television executives' conference in Miami.
The opening of "Upstate" shows some Syracuse landmarks, such as the National Grid building, Armory Square and the Palace Theater. The characters lose their jobs and are trying to figure out where to go next.
The pilot will air at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Channel 9-WSYR.
