Syracuse invites people to Live, Work and Play in Armory Square
A brand new bright, contemporary welcome sign has just been installed on the edge of Syracuse's Armory Square. It sits at the intersection of W. Fayette, West and Walton Streets right near the on ramp to interstate 690. It's all part of the Connective Corridor project that is working to tie together Syracuse University, arts attractions and downtown communities.
Armory Square is the most vital neighborhood in downtown Syracuse. It's filled with restaurants, small shops and taverns. It also has apartments, condos and features Syracuse's only Urban Outfitters store.
The Connective Corridor colors are incorporated into the design in the red colors and circles that ask people to "Live, Work and Play" in the neighborhood. Syracuse University led the project to post the sign on property owned by the NY State Department of Transportation. Eric Mower and Associates did the design work. Kassis Signs built the structure. Public tax dollars paid for the sign through two New York State sources.
In a news release the president of the Armory Square Association, Tony Ortega said, "the sign reflects the creativity and style of Armory Square."
What do you think of the new look sign? It replaces a wooden one that had stood there for years.
