Utica woman charged with DWI in crash, leading police on chase

UTICA -- A Utica woman is accused of driving drunk and crashing, then leading police on a chase.

Utica police say 23-year-old Candace Thierry was turning southbound onto Tilden Avenue from Catherine Street around 1:38 a.m. Sunday when she slammed into the guide rail of a telephone pole, flipping onto its side.

After the crash, police say Thierry and a female passenger took off on foot and were later found at an apartment on Catherine Street. Police say Thierry already had several suspensions on her driver's license.She is charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, unregistered motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle while on a highway.

No one was hurt in the crash.
