LOCKPORT (AP) -- An upstate New York substitute teacher has pleaded guilty to the attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl he was tutoring.
John Summerson of Lockport appeared Monday in Niagara Count Court, where he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree rape.
He faces 1 1/3 to four years in prison when he's sentenced in May.
In an indictment, the 25-year-old was accused of having sex with the victim last February. Authorities learned of the matter in May when the girl's stepfather confronted him at a donut shop and police were called to the scene.
Summerson had been a long-term substitute at Niagara Elementary School.
