ONONDAGA COUNTY -- A man accused of impersonating a police officer and raping a woman pleaded not guilty Saturday in Onondaga County Court.

Arthur Groff, 37, of Hastings was arraigned Saturday morning. Investigators say Groff responded to an adult services ad in the Syracuse New Times. On Thursday, they say he met the woman who placed the ad, showed a badge and accused her of exposing herself to an undercover detective. Groff is then accused of handcuffing the woman and raping her.

Groff is charged with rape and criminal impersonation among other things. Bail has been set at $250,000. Groff is being held at the Justice Center in Syracuse. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

As the investigation continues, sheriff's deputies are asking others who may have had similar experiences to call the abused persons unit at 435-3092.
