OWEGO (AP) -- State police say a 42-year-old Binghamton-area man has died after he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle in the wrong direction on Route 17.

Troopers say Abdul Wahid of Endicott was riding a bike westbound in the eastbound driving lane when he was struck by a car around 6 a.m. Monday in the Tioga County town of Owego, 10 miles west of Binghamton.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver hasn't been charged. Troopers say their investigation is continuing.

State transportation officials say bicycles aren't allowed on Route 17.
