PHILADELPHIA, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say one person has died and three others are recovering from injuries suffered in a five-vehicle crash on a northern New York road.
State police say the accident occurred around 4:50 p.m. Monday in the Jefferson County village of Philadelphia when a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Kyle Simard of Watertown crossed into the opposite lane of Route 11 and collided with a tractor-trailer.
That set off a chain-reaction crash involving three other vehicles.
Troopers say the truck went into the opposite lane and struck a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Jae Molner of Adams Center, killing him on impact.
Simard was ticketed for failing to keep right.
Troopers say inattention by Simard was a contributing factor in the accident.
Three other drivers were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
