ELMIRA (AP) -- A 52-year-old man has been found guilty of causing the fire that killed a woman at a rural upstate New York cabin where methamphetamine was being made.

Elmira media outlets report that a Chemung County jury's second day of deliberations ended Thursday afternoon when it convicted Brion Peters of Millerton of manslaughter and unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in last May's death of Kanisha Wood.

The 20-year-old from Elmira was at a cabin in nearby Baldwin when a plastic pitcher containing liquid fuel exploded on a wood stove, causing the fire that killed Wood.

The jury decided that Peters knew he was doing something dangerous when he placed the container on the stove.

The man who owned the cabin, 52-year-old Gary Varlan, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and testified at the trial.
