SYRACUSE -- CNY Central has learned that the Syracuse School District has placed a top administrator on leave and notified the District Attorney's office about possible criminal wrongdoing.
Although the District will not identify the administrator, a source close to the investigation says he is Michael Schmidt who serves as the Director of Evaluation, Assessment and Planning.
The source tells CNY Central's Jim Kenyon that Schmidt was allegedly claiming to be on the job with the school district while he was out of town officiating at Division 1-A girls basketball games.
Spokesman Mike Henesey confirms that the Syracuse School District has been conducting an investigation into "an administrator for the past several weeks", which culminated in the decision on Wednesday to place the administrator on "administrative leave with pay."
Henesey also confirmed the "District Attorney's office is aware of the investigation and there's on-going discussions with the DA's office."
Henesey says the Syracuse School Board has been notified as well.
When approached by CNY Central’s Jim Kenyon at his home, Schmidt refused to acknowledge questions and did not make a statement as he got in his car and drove away.
The DA’s office has no comment about the investigation.
