It's amazing what we demand from our smartphones these days. The more we demand, those phones often deliver. However, the one thing they have trouble delivering is enough battery power to keep your phone working all day long.
Glen Oross expects a lot from his smartphone. "I use the internet a lot, I check the surf report during the day to see what's going on," said Oross. But there is a problem, Glen's phone doesn't stay charged up. "If I'm on the internet a lot or doing doing email, it will die by 4 o'clock in the afternoon," said Oross.
That's not an uncommon complaint. Daniel Veiga uses his phone for everything from surfing the internet to talking to his friends, but his phone doesn't always stay charged up. "When I'm using GPS my battery gets drained really quickly," said Veiga.
Phone designers admit research into battery technology is not keeping up with the many features and apps available for smartphones. With the addition of 4G connections, those phones are draining the battery even faster, leaving owners like Glen Oross with one simple request: "I'd like to see it go from 5 in the morning till 9 at night."
What can you do to increase the battery power of your phone? Simply turn off the features your not using. If you're not in an area that offers 4G, then don't use it. You're phone will keep draining the battery looking for the high speed connection. Turn off your GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth when you don't need it. Also, check the brightness of your cell phone screen. A bright screen uses more battery power. And turn off the audio equalizer and drop push notifications.
In the meantime, developers will continue to work on making better batteries, a promise smartphone users will definitely get a charge out of.
