SYRACUSE -- A local doctor charged in a drunk driving collision that left a homeless man hurt pleaded guilty to vehicular assault.

66-year-old Frank Vogel appeared in Onondaga County Court on Wednesday. He will be sentenced to six months in prison and five years probation when he heads back before a judge on April 11. He will also have to install an interlock device in his case.

Sheriff's deputies say Vogel was driving his BMW south on Onondaga Lake Parkway just north of the CSX railroad bridge in August when he hit 32-year-old Jason Farnham on the side of the road. Farnham was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Vogel was a doctor at Upstate University Hospital. The hospital alter issued a statement saying Vogel was no longer employed there, but said that was unrelated to his DWI arrest.
