BRIDGEPORT, MADISON COUNTY (AP) -- Authorities say a group of adults and children had to be rescued from a drifting slab of ice that had broken off from the shoreline of a central New York lake.

Officials in Madison County tell The Oneida Daily Dispatch that several adults and five or six children were ice fishing on Oneida Lake's southern shore in Bridgeport early Wednesday afternoon when the ice cracked along the shoreline. The crack widened and the ice slab started drifting away from shore.

When emergency crews arrived, the group was about a half mile from shore. A bystander took a rowboat out to the group and rescued everyone.

Officials say no one required treatment for any injuries or exposure.
