Old Liverpool Road, Town of Salina

People who live and work around a busy intersection in the Town of Salina are surprised to hear that a pedestrian got a ticket after being hit by a car.
According to reports, 44 year old John Crouch was crossing Old Liverpool Road in front of his home near the intersection with Electronics Parkway, when he was hit by a car driven by 22 year old Steven Riou of the Town of Clay. Deputies issued Crouch, who suffered a head injury, a ticket for crossing in front of the car.
That portion of Old Liverpool Road consists of four lanes with a 40 mile per hour speed limit. Lyle Stone, who lives nearby, says over the years, the road has become increasingly more travelled to the point where he feels it's not safe for pedestrians to cross.
Sue Brennan works at a pizza shop next to the accident scene. She points out that there are no pedestrian crossways, so she questions why an accident victim would be cited by Sheriff''s deputies.
Two people who had to dodge traffic to get to a bus stop, Richard Taylor and Darlene Horner say the road is "dangerous." They feel experts need to examine the traffic patterns and come up with ways to increase safety.
Salina Town Supervisor Mark Nicotra says Old Liverpool Road comes under the jurisdiction of Onondaga County. He says the road has "become less pedestrian friendly" because of increased traffic, in part because of the commercial traffic ban on Onondaga Lake Parkway. Nicotra says the town had previously received a complaint about the need for a street light near the accident scene. He says the Town Board has formally made such a request to National Grid.
Accident victim, John Crouch could not be reached for comment.
