EAST SYRACUSE -- It is a tale of two gas stations. Traveling a few extra miles could save you money at the pump.
At the Sunoco on East Molloy Road in East Syracuse Friday, drivers filling up their cars were paying a whopping $3.95 a gallon. But a little more thantwo miles down the road at the Nice N Easy on Northern Boulevard a gallon of regular was selling for just $3.83 a gallon.
Tony Manobianco of Liverpool was surprised to hear gas was twelve cents a gallon cheaper at the Nice N Easy just down the road since he says he is always on the lookout for places to save at the pump. "As I'm driving by different places I'll look at the price of each place and go to the one where the sale is the best," he says.
According to gasbuddy.com, a website that tracks gas prices, the $3.95 the East Molloy Rd. Sunoco was selling a gallon of regular gas for makes it one of the most expensive in the area, while the Nice N Easy's $3.83 price per gallon was one of the cheapest in the area.
The National Association of Convenience Stores says there are several factors that could impact the price of gas at each location. Those include costs each store incurs, like rent or labor, the agreements each store makes with its supplier, and area competition.
John Arrigon of Liverpool says the oil companies and gas station owners both share the blame. "Everyone is seeing the opportunity to make a few dollars and they are sticking it to the American people unfortunately," he says.
Why do you think there is such a big difference in prices between different stations? What is the biggest difference you found?
