CORTLAND -- A Cortland man is in custody following a domestic dispute.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a physical disturbance at 30 South Avenue in Cortland. Police say a 22-year-old woman was assaulted while holding her one-year-old child.

Police say the suspect, 39-year-old Brian Valentino, took off in a stolen purple 2000 Dodge Neon with a New York State registration FRR-6608. Police say 41-year-old Audrey Smith was also in the car.

Monday afternoon, police announced they found Valentino. He faces charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He is also wanted by the New York State Division of Parole for a parole violation.

Police say Smith was unharmed and did not want to press further charges against him.
