UTICA -- A Utica sex offender is accused of threatening his girlfriend with a knife.

Utica police were called to the Olbiston Apartments at 1431 Genesee Street around 8:12 p.m. Monday regarding a domestic dispute.

Police say 33-year-old Michael Johnson, a registered level three sex offender, got into a fight with his girlfriend and slapped her across the face.

Police say Johnson then pushed her onto the bed, grabbed her by the throat and choked her. When she went to call police, they say Johnson pulled a knife and threatened to stab her if police came.

Johnson is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing and harassment.
