UTICA -- A Utica man is accused of hiding drugs in his body and later assaulting a police officer.

32-year-old Daniel Davis, of Weston Place, was arrested Thursday on a warrant in the area of Whitesboro Street and Kernan Avenue.

While at police headquarters, investigators say Davis removed a plastic bag containing crack cocaine from his buttock, then placed it in his mouth while trying to swallow the evidence.

During a struggle with police to prevent him from swallowing the drugs, police say Sergeant David Matrulli suffered a hand injury.

Davis is charged with assault, tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstructing governmental administration.
