National Grid is working on getting power back
The winds have made for a busy morning for National Grid crews, but the big outages in Central New York are now fixed.
The utility is working on a handful of outages in Madison County, in the Town of Sullivan at the Oneida Lake Shore, and power should be restored about 11am. On the west shore of Skaneateles Lake, in LaFayette and in Popmpey, power to another handful of residents should be back on about noon.
Overnight, close to a thousand CNY customers were blacked out, mostly in the Town of Clay in Onondaga County. Oneida County had close to 500 without power, and there were also scattered outages in Jefferson and Cortland Counties.
NYSEG and National Grid both say the problems have been much worse in western New York: Erie and Niagara counties have over four thousand outages, with expectations that it will be late afternoon before power is restored.
A reminder: don't touch wires, or cars with wires on them. And be careful if you're moving downed tree limbs--they're heavier than they look!
