SYRACUSE (AP) -- The New York Air National Guard's 174th Fighter Wing is getting a new commander.
Col. Greg Semmel of Jamesville officially took command of the Syracuse-based unit at a Sunday afternoon ceremony held at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base.
Members of the 174th control remotely piloted unmanned aircraft over the skies of Afghanistan from their base.
Semmel has been a member of the 174th since 2000 and has served as the unit's assistant vice commander for the past year. The former pilot flew more than 125 combat missions.
He's taking over from Col. Kevin Bradley, who has led the 174th since May 2008. Bradley has been reassigned to New York Air National Guard headquarters in suburban Albany.
