NEW YORK (AP) -- Sen. Charles Schumer is calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate reports that some smart phone applications can be used to steal private photos and contacts without the user's consent.
The New York Democrat on Sunday asked the FTC to determine whether copying or distributing personal information from Apple and Android smartphones without a user's consent constitutes a deceptive trade practice.
He also urged manufacturers to put safety measures in place to protect user's privacy.
