OSWEGO (AP) -- Residents of an upstate New York nursing home have begun returning to the facility, nearly six months after it was forced to close because of flood damage caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.
The Press and Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton reports that the first five residents returned Tuesday to the Riverview Manor Health Center in Owego in Tioga County, just west of Binghamton.
The facility was evacuated last September when the Susquehanna River overflowed its banks and flooded the building's basement and first floor. Residents were sent to other nursing homes.
State officials cleared the 77-bed Riverview Manor for re-occupancy last week. More than 40 other residents are expected to return over the next two weeks and the facility is expected to be near capacity by the end of the month.
