POTSDAM (AP) -- Just in time for the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, workers at a northern New York museum have rediscovered a jacket worn by a soldier during the conflict.
Staffers are at the Potsdam Museum in St. Lawrence County were taking inventory of the collection when they found the dark blue jacket buried in the archives along with thousands of other items.
Museum Director Miriam VanDeusen tells the Watertown Daily Times that the uniform is thought to have belonged to Shubel Clark, a soldier in the New York Detached Militia of Ogdensburg. She says the rare artifact is in "very nice" condition for a 200-year-old garment.
VanDeusen says the coat was donated to the museum in 1953 by Clark's great-great-grandchild.
The jacket is on display at the museum through this year.
