BOUCKVILLE, MADISON CO. -- A state trooper was injured during a brief scuffle while he tried to take a Bouckville man into custody.

It happened during a traffic stop on Route 20 in the Town of Madison. State police had pulled over 25-year-old Douglas Deraway for allegedly using a cell phone while driving. Police later learned he was driving with a suspended license.

While being taken into custody, police say Deraway resisted being handcuffed and a scuffle broke out before he was eventually placed in handcuffs.

Both Deraway and the trooper suffered minor injuries.

Deraway is charged with resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle using a mobile phone. He was sent to the Madison County Jail on $500 bail.
