CICERO --
A weekend construction project will affect traffic in part of Cicero.
On Sunday, National Grid is working on electrical wires over I-481 in the area of Northern Boulevard in the Town of Cicero.
Due to this work, drivers should expect to slow down between Route 31 at exit 12 and Route 298 at exit 7.
From 5am until 7pm, the I-481 South ramp from I-81 will be closed. Drivers will not be able to get on to Rt. 481 North from Northern Boulevard.
The Rt. 481 south ramp from the Bear Road extension will also be closed.
Below is more detailed information from the New York State Department of Transportation:
I-481 Northbound and Southbound Mainline: Starting at approximately 9 a.m., N.Y.S.P.D. along with a traffic control contractor will begin a rolling roadblock on the northbound lanes beginning around Exit 7 (Route 298) and on the southbound lanes at around Exit 12 (Route 31). Each roadblock will continue at a designated reduced speed to a point just north of Exit 8 (Northern Boulevard) where the overhead wire removal-installation project is to occur. There will be successive roadblocks as needed throughout the day until the wire installation process has been completed.
Motorists should expect delays and Be Prepared To Stop as roadblocks are being utilized.
I- 81 Northbound Ramp: Exit 29 S (I-481 South) Closed to All Traffic, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour Information: Proceed north on I-81 to Exit 30 (Cicero). Right on Route 31 to Thompson Road, right on Thompson Road to Northern Boulevard, straight on Northern Boulevard to I-481 south ramp.
I-81 Southbound Ramp: Exit 29 S (I-481 South) Closed to All Traffic, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour Information: Proceed south on I-81 to Exit 28 (Taft Road), left on Taft Road to Northern Boulevard, left on Northern Boulevard to I-481 south ramp.
I-481 Northbound Ramp: On-ramp from Northern Boulevard, Closed to All Traffic. Detour Information: Proceed south on Northern Boulevard to Taft Road, right on Taft Road to I-81 north, I-81 north to Exit 29 N (I-481 North).
N.Y. Route 481 South Ramp: On-ramp from Bear Road extension in North Syracuse Closed to All Traffic, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour Information: Proceed east on Bear Road extension to South Bay Road, right on South Bay Road to Taft Road, left on Taft Road to Northern Boulevard, left on Northern Boulevard to I-481 south ramp.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
