(AP) -- School officials in the Adirondack resort town of Lake Placid are apologizing after a spammer linked to pornography sites from the district's new Twitter page.
The Lake Placid Central School district launched a Twitter account Feb. 29 to keep the community up to date on school events. Local media outlets report that a spammer soon after linked users to online sex sites.
While district officials quickly deactivated the site, some parents at a school board meeting Tuesday night criticized them for starting the account without proper safeguards.
There had been calls for the resignation of the school district superintendent related to other issues before the Twitter slip-up, which has added to the tension.
