ALBANY (AP) -- The top Republican in the Senate and an official familiar with the Assembly's plans say lawmakers will try to shift $200 million from an incentive program back to traditional school aid when they release budget resolutions Monday.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to set aside $250 million in his 2012-13 budget for competitive awards to schools that show improved instruction or innovation.
But Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos says his chamber will recommend using $200 million of that for traditional school aid. That would mean most of the $800 million total would be disbursed as usual.
A legislative official says the Assembly's Democratic majority will make the same recommendation because they want to see how the program works. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the resolutions hadn't been released.
