LAKE PLACID -- State police are investigating a deadly crash in the Town of North Elba near Lake Placid that killed a pedestrian.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. March 9 on State Route 86. Police say 28-year-old Jake Bell, of Mexico, was driving east on State Route 86 when he hit a pedestrian trying to cross the street. The pedestrian, 66-year-old Albert Scavo, of Lake Placid, was taken to Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid where he was pronounced dead. There are no reports of injuries to either Bell or his passenger, 23-year-old Danielle Phelps.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
