If Fab Melo does enter the NBA draft he could be a late first round pick.

NBADraft.net currently lists him as the 20th pick in the first round.

Draftexpress.com predicts he will be the second pick in the second round. While Melo is still considered a raw talent by most scouts, his shot blocking ability, height and wingspan have generated a lot of interest among NBA teams.

First round picks in the NBA draft receive guaranteed contracts but second round picks do not. Some scouts have compared Melo to former UConn stars Hasheem Thabeet and Hilton Armstrong. Both have struggled to make an impact in the NBA after being high drafts picks coming out of college and some analysts think NBA teams will be hesitant to give a guaranteed contract to Melo at this point.

SU sophomore Dion Waiters and senior Kris Joseph are also projected to be late first round picks in the 2012 NBA Draft. Waiters hasn't said whether he will enter the draft after this season or not.
