DEWITT -- The identity of the human remains found near Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt last weekend remain a mystery.

DeWitt police say they continue a methodical search of the scene, hoping to find any evidence that might shed some light on the case. Meanwhile, detectives are working with anthropologists from the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office to help identify the remains and the cause and possible manner of death.

Police say it's a tedious process that will take time.

The remains were found last Saturday afternoon near the mall. Police say they got a call from a woman who says her 13-year-old son made the discovery while playing in the woods. Detectives believe the remains had been there for a while. They have been checking missing persons cases for clues.
