Vera House campaign against domestic violence
The White Ribbon Domestic Abuse/Sexual Violence awareness campaign goes on all week
Men walking in high heels may have grabbed the headlines on Friday, but Vera House's White Ribbon Campaign runs through next Sunday.
Rev. Kevin Agee, from Hopps Church in Syracuse, is this year's honorary chair. He says that stopping domestic violence and sexual abuse is the point of the awareness week, but that just as much good is done by parents--or other mentors--modeling appropriate behavior to children.
Besides wearing white ribbons, there are awareness activities through the week, including:
~ white awareness wristbands at the Syracuse Select basketball tournament for 11 to 17 year olds (AAU sanctioned) at Lemoyne College, Saturday & Sunday.
~In-school awareness, all week. Schools which do the best get 'rewards'
~women's awareness and personal protection workshop at Champion's Martial Arts, March 28th evening
~Zumba benefit at Dancing Kats, Mattydale, March 31 afternoon
