Bragging Rights on the line
Not just the meatballs, but also the sauce will be judged on Sunday for the annual 'Meatball Madness."
It's not quite the Final Four, but to hear the chefs involved, it's pretty close. Meatball Madness: a dozen Syracuse-area restaurants (actually their chefs) present their meatballs--and sauce--to a panel of celebrity judges, who vote on the best. Bragging rights are definitely on the line.
Mike Caruso, who owns Aunt Josie's on Syracuse's North Side, was our guest on Saturday to preview the Sunday event. He was #1 in 2009 & 2010, but came in 3rd in 2011 (to Santangelo's in Liverpool). He offered to have words with our Niko Tamurian, one of the celebrity judges last year. But, Caruso is determined to fight for the title this year. The samples he brought in to show smelled great--he declined to share his secret recipe!
'Meatball Madness' is a benefit for Elmcrest Children's Center, Sunday at high noon at Drumlins. It runs through the afternoon (yes, they have big-screen tvs if you want to see who else makes it to the Final Four). Dominick's Restaurant provides meatballs for spectators, and there's live entertainment and a big silent auction, too.
We'll let you know who gets this year's bragging rights.
