CAROLINE, TOMPKINS CO. -- A Tompkins County man is facing charges in a fight that left two puppies dead and one seriously hurt.
22-year-old Dustin White, of Caroline, is accused of running over the three puppies with his car following a dispute with a female acquaintance. It happened Sunday afternoon in Caroline, about 10 miles southeast of Ithaca.
Police say White left the scene and was later arrested. State police say the dogs' owner is a relative of someone White knows.
The 7-week-old huskies came from the same litter. The one dog that survived is now in the care of the SPCA after being treated at the Cornell University Veterinary Hospital.
Joe Hoffer, a humane officer with the Tompkins County SPCA tells CNYCentral the dog is still recovering from fractured ribs, a broken rear leg and other fractures. He says the dog has a lengthy road to recovery ahead.
The SPCA expects the expenses to nurse the dog back to health to be in the thousands of dollars.
White is charged with three felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Caroline Town Court on April 2.
Police didn't know if White had a lawyer.
