Earth Day Cleanups set for Onondaga, Oswego Counties
Over four thousand people have already signed up to help give Onondaga County a spring spruce-up. This year's Earth Day cleanups are set for April 20 & 21 (Friday and Saturday), but OCRRA says you need to register by Friday.
Sarah Stewart, a recycling specialist with the county's resource recovery agency, says signing up will give you special stickers to place on the bags of litter collected, so they can be disposed of for free.
Groups are welcome to get involved---it's also a good way to get young people to start thinking about community stewardship. You can pick the area you want to clean up, but if you need suggestions, OCRRA works with local government groups and will have suggestions. Many government groups, or fire departments also host open houses to 'reward' community volunteers.

Oswego County is also setting up its Earth Day cleanups, which includes waterway cleanups. The dates are April 21 to 29, with the Canal Clean Sweep on the 21st and 22nd. Trash bag, work gloves and vests are available. Litter collection can be arranged to waive tipping fees. More information> 343-4565 or www.oswegocounty.com/earthweek,html
