SYRACUSE (AP) -- More than 100 volunteers are doing a home makeover for a 29-year-old man who was left paralyzed when he was struck by a car while helping an injured pedestrian.
Jeffrey Masterpol of the Syracuse suburb of Mattydale has been confined to a wheelchair since the 2006 accident that took his brother's life. The two brothers were helping a pedestrian struck by a car, when the driver returned to the scene and hit the good Samaritans.
In November, Masterpol's father, Jerry, died before he finished making the family's home handicapped accessible. So volunteers organized by employees of LeMoyne College and St. Joseph's Hospital are spending this week doing an extreme makeover.
Masterpol expects to graduate from Le Moyne College in May.
