WEST GENESEE -- Middle school students were cheering Monday at West Genesee Middle School as they watched a show about science and learned their teacher was headed to Space Academy.
The program started with the recognition of science teacher Daniel Howard.
Howard received a flight suit, so he can attend the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama this summer. The academy is designed to teach Howard about new teaching techniques that can help students get excited about science, math, and technology.
"Science and technology go hand in hand, we need the engineers, we need the people who are going to be our future and this (program) helps them do that," said Howard.
Then, the students watched a performance called "FMA Live" about Isaac Newton's three laws of motion. The show was created by NASA and Honeywell. It uses hip-hop music and dance to teach middle school students about science. West Genesee Middle School was selected as part of a 20 city tour of FMA Live. The show is also headed to Solvay Middle School.
"I'm overwhelmed, I don't know, I've looked online and talked to the teachers. I'm just excited to be one of 200 that can go," said Howard.
