ALEXANDRIA BAY -- Law enforcement agencies in New York and in Canada are coming together for the "Safety Without Boarders Initiative" to improve road safety.

Troop D Commander Major Rodney W. Campbell announced Tuesday at a press conference in Alexandria Bay that troopers will join forces with their Canadian counterparts to improve road safety this Easter Weekend.

"Safety Without Boarders Initiative" was developed to improve road safety in boarder regions during busy holidays weekends when there is increased traffic.

Troopers will focus efforts on crash causing violations such as speeding, texting, and impaired driving, among others.

"We know that as traffic volume rises, the potential for crashes increases as well, and law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border are committed to prevent these tragedies," Major Campbell said in a news release.

During the "Safety Without Boarders Initiative" last April, over 1,000 tickets were issued in a single day.
