SYRACUSE -- Union workers voiced their anger with state lawmakers in downtown Syracuse Thursday.
CSEA members rallied in front of the state office building. They want New York legislators to repeal what the union is calling the" dark deal." It refers to the pension reform plan passed by Governor Andrew Cuomo and both houses of the state legislature.
Union leaders say the deal takes away money from blue collar workers, while adding a cash perk to non-unionized government workers making more than $75,000.
CSEA representative Donald Lynskey says, "I'm surprised this happened in the dark of the night, and I'm surprised that the governor and Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli think that we would sit back and let this happen, after they have taken money from our members, the workforce, taken money out of their pockets."
Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli responded, calling the pension plan a difficult vote for him. He says, "If and when our state's fiscal condition changes for the better, benefit packages should be looked at again."
