Risk may be greater than benefits in preventing heart attack
A new study questions the benefits of a baby aspirin a day in fighting heart attack.
A new study on the effectiveness of aspirin in heart attacks is questioning whether the 'one a day' approach is worthwhile.
Researchers followed 100-thousand people with no history of chronic heart disease for six years, and found that the baby aspirin daily doses lowered the risk of non- fatal heart attacks by 10%, but did nothing to lower the risk of a fatal heart attack.
Andthe study found that risk may out weigh benefits, with increased risk of bleeding events (including in the brain or eye) up by 30%.
The advice from Dr. Rich O'Neill at SUNY Upstate: if you're taking the daily dose, check with your doctor before any changes.
