ITHACA -- Two are dead, two others are injured after a one-car crash in Ithaca Sunday morning.

It happened at 3:57 a.m. Sunday on Route 13 at Cascadilla Street. Police say the accident happened when the driver apparently swerved out of control while going very fast.

Two people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and two were pronounced dead. The names weren't released, pending notification of their families.

Route 13 was closed for almost 14 hours after the crash, reopening Sunday evening at 5:45.

The crash, at the busy intersection where the landmark Purity Ice Cream Parlor is, also brought down a transformer. NYSEG crews have since restored power to five businesses.

Ithaca Police said it will release more information on the crash and victims on Monday.
