Syracuse's First Presbyterian, founded in 1826, has closed its doors. Only 100 came to Sunday's Easter services, and that is more than have been coming on 'regular' Sundays. Low attendance and increasing financial concerns led to the decision to close.
In addition to the big Sanctuary, there is an historic rectory building and a youth center building on the property at West Genesee Street near the 690/downtown ramp. The church will now decide what to do with them. One member at Sunday's service told us he hopes another denomination will take over the facility, which was built in the early 1900s.
