SCRIBA, OSWEGO CO. -- The planned spring refueling outage is underway at a portion of Nine Mile Point in Scriba.
Nine Mile Point Unit 2 was taken offline at 12:02 a.m. for the planned refueling outage. The last time this occurred was for 30 days in the spring of 2010.
According to plant officials, the outage will include fuel handling and in-vessel inspections along with upgrades and replacements of equipment components including motors, valves and steals. During the refueling outage, one-third of the unit's fuel is replaced. The remaining two-thirds is shuffled.
Nine Mile Point will also perform cooling tower distribution piping replacement, control rod blade replacements and chemical decontamination of several systems. Crews will also perform high pressure turbine rotor replacement, feedwater pump motor cable replacement, steam dryer modifications, condenser expansion joint replacement and instrument set-point changes/replacements.
Nine Mile Point Unit 1 will continue to operate at full power.
