UTICA -- A Utica man is charged with attempted robbery after Utica Police say he threatened a bank teller with a toilet plunger.

It happened Thursday around 1:30 p.m. At the Key Bank on Genesee Street.

Lawrence Deptola, 49, apparently tried robbing two other banks earlier in the day, according to police.

When officers responded to the call at the Key Bank, they saw Deptola, who tried to take off.

Officers chased Deptola around the Bank of America ATM before making an arrest.

The plunger was found at the nearby Citizens Bank.

Deptola is charged with attempted third-degree robbery.
