MONTEZUMA, CAYUGA CO. -- A Trailways bus traveling from Syracuse to Rochester and Buffalo crashed on the Thruway early Monday morning.

It happened just before 5 a.m. Monday on I-90 in the Town of Montezuma in Cayuga County.

State police say 26-year-old Michael Prosser, of Rome, was driving a 2008 Hyundai Elantra westbound when he passed another car, spinning out of control, slamming into the guiderail in the center median and landing in the passing lane with no lights on. The Trailways bus, with 32 passengers on board, then slammed into the car. Thirteen passengers were evaluated by emergency crews, but none were taken to the hospital. They were all transferred to another bus.

Investigators say the roadway was wet and slush-covered at the time of the crash. Prosser was cited for imprudent speed and for moving from a lane unsafely.
