SYRACUSE -- Part of New Court Avenue, between Ashdale Avenue and North Midler Avenue, was closed following a car crash Wednesday morning.

Deputies responded to a one car crash on New Court Avenue around 5:27am when a 2011 Toyota Camry slammed into a utility pole.

Deputies say 36-year-old Yanitza Mulet, of Syracuse, fell asleep behind the wheel and drifted across the road crashing into the pole.

The force of impact broke the pole and brought down utility wires on the car.

Mulet immediately called 911 to report the crash.

National Grid responded to the scene to remove the wires, repair the pole, and restore power to the area.

Deputies say that Mulet suffered minor injuries and will be further evaluated. They do not expect to issue any tickets.
