SYRACUSE -- Prosecutors in Onondaga County are looking for anyone who may have bought a gun from a former sheriff's deputy.
Mark Doneburgh worked in law enforcement, and for Glock Firearms for about 20 years. Prosecutors say he may have been illegally getting gun parts and building guns. Investigators say he may have been putting together mismatched pieces. For example, a gun may have a barrel and slide with the same serial number, but the frame number may be different.
Now prosecutors are looking for anyone who may have bought a gun either directly or indirectly from Doneburgh. Also, they want to hear from anyone who has a valid federal or state firearms license who allowed Doneburgh to use their official records to transfer a firearm to another person. Investigators believe many of the guns were bought in good faith and placed on individual pistol permits.
The guns could be of varying calibers, including .9MM, .40 Cal., 10MM, .45 Cal., and .357.
Prosecutors warn the guns could malfunction because of the mismatched pieces.
Prosecutors have traced some of these guns, which ended up in the hands of law enforcement. However, they say some of the guns could be in civilian hands as well, so they are issuing this safety warning.
If you have one of these guns, you can turn it in with amnesty from April 30th - May 4th. You should also call New York State Police Senior Investigator Jose Figueirdo at 315-575-8895. Glock Firearms will replace any of these guns with a Glock gun of the person's choice.
Doneburgh is currently facing a trial in Onondaga County Court.
