ONEIDA -- Construction season is starting to kick into high gear in Central New York.
State Police and the State Department of Transpiration are urging drivers to be careful when work zones are set up.
In the city of Oneida, a repaving project is going on along State Route 5.
It was the backdrop as officials reminded people to slow down when you see the bright orange signs.
New York DOT Regional Director, Michael Shamma, says, "Please be vigilant, be careful, we want you to be safe, we want our workers to be safe, it doesn't make sense to try to take five minutes off your commute, and instead not arrive at all."
This is the first year that the new move over law applies to construction vehicles as well.
That means people who don't give enough room and slow down in construction zones could be hit by heavier fines, and have more points on their license for violations.
