PREBLE -- Both of the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 between Binghamton and Syracuse are open again since heavy equipment being towed on a flat-bed truck struck one of the highway's overpasses last Thursday.
The lanes were opened Friday evening, about 24 hours after the accident in the Cortland County town of Preble, 20 miles south of Syracuse.
State police say the other northbound lane is open Monday morning and all detours have been removed.
A truck was towing construction equipment on a road passing under the interstate when the machinery hit a span between exits 12 and 13. The two northbound lanes were closed while state transportation crews inspected the bridge for damage.
Northbound traffic was rerouted onto nearby state Route 281.
